Welcome to Chania Chania (60.000 inhabitants) is the capital of the prefecture. It is a beautiful town built by the sea and nicely combining old with new traditions that are visible both in its architecture and lifestyle.
A stroll in the Old Town is a like book on the history of architecture. Venetians, Turks, Egyptians developed and influenced the area from the 13th until the 19th century. Today the Old Town’s buildings have been restored and suitably rearranged. The town is lively and buzzing with activity all year round. A multitude of shops, cafebars, modern and traditional restaurants and meze shops attract a lot of local and foreign visitors. Small boarding houses and luxury suites recalling ther times complete the unique atmosphere of the Old Town. There are lots of surprises inside and outside the city.
