The Prefecture of Chania extends to the western part of Crete, covering an area of
2.376 km2, and has a population of 150.387 inhabitants. It is a mainly mountainous
area, as the Lefka Ori, i.e. the White Mountains (altitude 2.453 m), occupy a large
part of the prefecture. It also has wonderful beaches, especially on the southern
